Design and Technology Intent

At Oakfield Primary School we strive to provide an outstanding design and technology curriculum where children are given the opportunity to develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. We build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality stereotypes and producers for a wider range of users. Children will progress from a starting point, working through the design and making process to eventually critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.

We ensure all of our design briefs have a clear user and purpose. In order to make sure that our design briefs are relevant, we base them on contemporary problems. They aim to prepare students for an evolving world and encourage their creativity to thrive through this. Children will leave Year 6 as experts in a range of technological areas outlined in the National Curriculum: food technology, construction, mechanics and textiles.
