Art
Art Intent
At Oakfield Primary School we strive to provide an outstanding art education where children are given opportunities to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. Children at Oakfield become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques which have been specifically chosen to enhance the curriculum that we provide. Children are given the opportunity to evaluate, compare and analyse creative works using the language of art. Children know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
In the EYFS we support the development of children’s imagination and creativity, through artistic and cultural awareness. Through enabling children to explore, play and investigate a wide range of media, materials and tools. During adult directed tasks children have the opportunity to take inspiration from artists, and modelling of the staff. The development of these skills and knowledge set the foundation for the rest of their school life. As children move through KS1 and KS2, children will build up on their existing practical, disciplinary and theoretical knowledge equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.
