Welcome to The Year 6 unit

Useful Information

It is the expectation that the children in Year 6 will read at least 5 times a week at home. They can read anything from menus to adverts on the television, street signs to magazines, or of course, their favourite book. As long as it is recorded in their Reading Records then it counts. Children are able to write in their own reading records, as long as it is accompanied by a parent's signature.

Homework includes times tables, spellings, maths and GAPS homework. Spellings will be sent out on a Monday, to be tested the following Monday. Children in year 6 are expected to know all of their times tables so they need to be learning these at home. This could be in the form of chanting, testing, writing or playing games. Maths homework will be sent out on a Tuesday to be handed in on Thursday and GAPS homework is sent out on a Thursday to be handed in on the following Monday. GAPS homework will begin towards the end of the Autumn term. To support children, there is a maths homework club on a Wednesday and a GAPS homework club a Friday .

PE is on Wednesday in the form of Multi Sports during PPA. PE will also be taught on most Friday afternoons, although this may change from time to time. Please ensure the children bring the correct PE uniform (white t shirt and dark shorts with outdoor and indoor footwear) and remove or cover earrings prior to the lesson. Bringing in PE kits on a Monday and taking them home on a Friday will ensure the children never do PE without a kit.

SATS countdown

It is a busy time of year in year 6 with the upcoming SATS taking place in May. We have our SATS countdown displayed in class and we are working hard as a team to prepare and support one another.

There are several booster sessions available to support your child which take place on;

Tuesday 8am-8.45am Maths

Tuesday 3.15pm-4pm Maths

Thursday 8am-8.45am Reading

Thursday 3.15pm-4pm Reading.

In addition to these (closer to SATs), we will provide drop in sessions on a Monday morning, Wednesday morning and a Friday morning before school (8.15-8.45). These will have a maths focus.

We are also providing children with small group booster sessions on a Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoon to ensure the children feel confident and ready for the tests in May.

If you have queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via Dojo's or through the office.
