Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to Oakfield Primary School's website.

If this is your first visit, may I welcome you on behalf of the staff, governors and pupils. I hope that you find it useful and informative.

We have a senior management leadership team and a governing body whose prime objective is to raise the quality of teaching and learning and provide excellence and enjoyment in the curriculum. We also have an experienced and effective team of support staff and welcome parents to the school. As part of our staff team we are fortunate to have 3 "Advanced Skills" teachers (Numeracy, ICT, Literacy) who, for one day per week, spread their expertise across local schools. These roles are funded by the Local Authority.

We have developed the best possible educational environment and now have interactive whiteboards in all teaching areas together with a number of wireless laptops.

Our main priorities are to teach the core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy, Science and ICT through high-quality teaching and learning. We have raised the profile of the Arts, entering many of our pupils in the local Drama and musical festivals. We continue to raise standards and achievement in Litercy, Numeracy and Science. Pupils' individual achievement from Key Stage 1 to 2 has been raised and now matches the achievement in some of the best schools across the country.

Sporting activities are also high-profile and generate a lot of success for the school and its pupils. We have gained the National Healthy Schools award, the Basic Skills Quality Mark and the Active Mark. We have also received the "Artsmark Gold" award and the Financial Management Standard which shows that we are achieving best value for our pupils.

Our last Ofsted inspection in March 2010 judged us to be "a good school with outstanding features". We are now striving to be even better. We believe that every child matters and personalised learning programmes ensure that every child can reach his/her potential.

We have high expectations of pupil behaviour and try to instill a sense of responsibility and community spirit in every pupil both inside and outside school. We have a head girl and boy and captains/vice-captains voted for through an election process. We also have school buddies and School Council members who provide a voice for all pupils.

Our new facilities will bring the school environment up to the 21st century standard which is very exciting for our community.

The information on our website will be updated regularly and we hope that you will join us regularly.

Thank you for visiting us. I hope that you find the website useful.

Best wishes,

Janice Szymonowicz (Headteacher)
